Early on, Dr. Laura became involved with two projects that set out to digitize Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curricula.

SHATTERED

“There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”

–Leonard Cohen

Shattered: The ART of Change is a multi-medium workshop that re-envisions our relationship to aspects of our lives that have irrevocably changed;

aspects of our lives that seem damaged or broken.

These include loss of job/revenue, loss of self-esteem/changes to social status, changes in health and physical capabilities, loss of significant relationship, etc.

Change is the one constant in life.

Shattered rests on the premise that we all resist negative change. Our resistance does not, however, prevent the emotional wounds that result from it. Many of these wounds are never addressed, and (continue to) affect our lives in insidious ways.

Shame often accompanies change. It is an emotional parasite that burrows deep into our bodies, seeps into our relationships, and worms its way into our soul.

It is nourished by the belief that change results from personal failure.

The sense that we are not good enough cultivates humiliation, and can lead to anger and depression.

A sense of failure can result from a aspects of our lives that have changed, or from personal emotional trauma

(Labels like ‘fat,’ ‘boy’, ‘whore’ ‘snowflake,’ or just rejection, stigmatize, humiliate, and damage our relationship to self and others.)

Social judgments lead to self-judgments that begin to cripple dreams and shatter futures.

Shattered challenges us to interrupt anxiety and pain by emotionally re-purposing (and changing) our unproductive views.

Shattered prompts participants to write a revised self-story. Using meditation, facilitated writing, discussions, sharing, and a hands-on exercise, Shattered re-envisions wholeness. It broadens the framework, repositions participants to their emotional beliefs, and facilitates the reintegration of damaging experiences.

The power of partnership

How will new questions reframe ineffective ‘solutions,’ and facilitate growth and change in your community or organization?

  • What narratives currently guide your organization? (How do you define problems?)
  • What nurtures your community?
  • How can shared changed circumstances (especially the many disruptions caused by covid) forge new social bonds, help identify and reinforce silver linings, and redefine what it means to 'be the change we want to see'?
All presentations and mini-workshops are interactive, and co-developed around change.

All change –whether deliberate, unanticipated, or unwelcome–has the potential to transform individuals and organizations.

Presentations explore the nature of change. They consider how pride, shame, grief, and belonging are integral to shaping the change you want (or need) to make in your organization.

Mini-Workshops focus on co-visioning, strategizing, and supporting change on a communal as well as individual level. Whether it is laying new groundwork, adjusting to changed circumstances, or developing new directions, interactive re-visioning is key. Group processing facilitates the re-examination of goals, as well as the pathways that inspire transformation.

My goal is to spark and help shape that process.

Workplace Meditations and Guided writing make the work environment holistic. Offer employees themed, group meditations before the start of the workday, and guided writing exercises at its close. Help your workforce prepare for, and process, the stressors in their day.

What Our Clients Say

"NYCID's partnership with Dr. Martocci is as unique as it is rewarding because Laura is not only well-versed, she is gifted. Dr. Martocci's approach to helping people work through the deep wounds of trauma is brilliant, and the manner in which she guides participants through the tough spots of each memory is masterful. I personally benefited from the sessions she conducted with our community, and we are eager to do more with her."

New York Center for Interpersonal Development (NYCID)

"I have invited Dr. Laura Martocci into my classroom almost every semester. She engages the entire class, yet provides individualized attention to the students who are comfortable sharing their experiences. Martocci asks students to identify the emotion-skills they use, then prompts them to re-define issues by using alternative perspectives. By facilitating shifts in their relationship to personal challenges, Martocci models the critical importance of narrative... My students leave with tools to assess their future responses."
